Printable Calendar for the First Weeks of School
Hi, MIS Family!
I’m so excited for the school year to begin! I LOVE the first days of school. I love the newness, enthusiasm, and sense of possibility that permeates classrooms, expressions, and the goal-setting process. With the start of this year, I speak for the entire team in that we are eager to challenge our students, and do our part to keep everyone safe. We also remain committed to offering your family as much flexibility as possible as we work through the academic year. With this in mind, I'm eager to share some details for the weeks ahead.

While we have worked hard to prepare the building for an in-person return to learning, based on the current COVID-19 threat levels in our local area and the counties where our students live, we’ll begin the year on the 100% virtual schedule. At this time, we plan for all students to learn virtually for the first three weeks of school. We are planning to begin a phased-in approach to in-person learning on Tuesday, September 8th.

On Tuesday, September 8, grades K-8 will begin in-person classes unless the students have opted into learning from home, and in that case they’ll follow the respective hybrid plans for their school levels. So that we can accurately and safely adjust arrival, dismissal, and safety procedures, students in grades 9-12 will learn from home following a modified schedule for the month of September. The modified High School schedule is a will follow the in-person schedule, and alternate mornings and afternoons of live classes.

Student schedules will be visible in myMIS the week of August 10. In order to support in-person students and virtual students simultaneously, there are classes across the building that will have two teachers, and be co-taught. To implement this model, we are adhering to the 1:12 student to teacher ratio, but you'll notice more than 12 students in some classes. As you read through details, you'll notice that K-5th grade students (Elementary School) will have a schedule with 8 numbered periods, while 6-8th grade students (Middle School) and 9-12th grade students (High Schools) will have a schedule with 6 lettered blocks most days.

Please read through the below updates to read more about the safety guidelines and procedures we have in place for our return to campus, spirit wear, and school level contacts.

Best,
Lindsey Hicks
