K-8th Camps

Week 1: June 4-8

Rising Grades K-2 : STEM: Animal Architects & Biomimicry
Can you build like a cathedral termite or construct a waterproof paper house? From clay, to wax, to paper, and so much more, young engineers discover the amazing ways animals use materials to architect and build in their environments.
Electives Grades K-3: MakerSpace or Net Games (tennis, volleyball, badminton) $395

Rising Grades  2-4 : Magical Drama 
Combining acting with magician skills will make for an amazing week of wonder and fun! Actors and actresses will add dimension and amazement to their theatrical performance. This will provide campers with presentation skill sets beyond the usual.  Parents are invited to see their camper in action on the Friday afternoon performance.
Electives Grades K-3: Makerspace or  Net Games (tennis, volleyball, badminton) $395

Kaleidoscope Kids: A Yoga, Art and Social Skills Camp 

This will be a fun and interactive camp that will sharpen children’s friendship skills, expose them to yoga and unleash their creativity through art!

Full Day (9-3:00pm): $450

Partial Day (9-1:00 pm):$350

Rising Grades 4-5 : BreakOut an International Adventure
Pack your bags and get ready for an international adventure while solving the codes in the breakout room! On this exciting around the world adventure, young travelers explore the cultures and geography of the World’s most amazing international sites. After jet-setting around the globe on virtual field trips young travellers will use their new knowledge to solve the mysteries of the breakout room!  Yes, codes and keys galore!
Electives Grades 4-8:  Invasion Games (Soccer, Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Quidditch) or Makerspace $395

Rising Grade 6-11 : PSAT/SAT/ACT Prep
SAT/ACT campers will receive five hours of daily instruction designed to prepare them for the reading, math, and science components of the SAT/ACT . Using strategies and techniques created by leading test preparation experts, students will work through authentic test questions created by the College Board. Individual and group instruction will be tailored to student needs based on a short assessment given on each Monday of camp.  Direct content instruction as well as test taking strategies are the focus and geared at maximizing scores.
Week 1 content focus: Algebra & Number Properties; Reading Comprehension; Science.

Rising Grades  2-3 : STEM – International Engineering
On this exciting international adventure around the world, young engineers explore the magnificent structures of ancient and modern civilizations.  As your camper dives into the engineering inspiration of each culture, he or she will practice collaboration and problem-solving skills, and learn amazingly new engineering strategies.  From the Eiffel Tower to the Egyptian Pyramids, your young engineer will be inspired!
Elective Grades K-3: Net Games (tennis, volleyball, badminton) or Makerspace $395

Rising Grades 4-5 : Songwriting 
Music at MIS is designed to meet a wide spectrum of musical skill and experience levels.  Songwriting camp provides young musicians with opportunities to learn and collaborate based on interest and style.  MIS songwriters create original music, learn to play favorite songs, explore the basics of songwriting, and engage in musical collaboration and arranging.

Essay writing practice includes,  brainstorming examples and arguments, organization, and style. Content focus: Geometry & Trigonometry; Essay Writing; Science, $395

Summer Travel to China with Mr. Ashley Scott and EF Tours
June 5th-12th, 2018
Experience Chinese culture—from a Legend of Kung Fu show to a Peking duck dinner—and visit the greatest monument of all: the Great Wall. Construction on the Wall began in the 3rd century B.C., and today it extends for more than 3,000 miles.  The experience includes round trip flights, ground transportation, 24-hour bilingual Tour Director, hotels, all entrance fees, all breakfasts and all dinners.  For more information contact Mr. Scott. $3270

Week 3: June 18-23

Camp hours are from 8:30am-3:30pm.  Early care is available free of charge starting at 8am.  Aftercare is available from 3pm -6pm, at $20 per day.  Advanced registration for early and aftercare is not required.  Aftercare charges will be billed at the end of the week.  

A light morning snack will be provided.   Please send a bag lunch and water bottle with your camper.

When can I register for summer camps?

Summer camp information will go live on our web site in January, and you may enroll in the camps of your choice at that time.

What makes summer camp at MIS special?

MIS summer camps are a great preview into what a problem-based curriculum looks like. The thematic camps reflect opportunities for students to learn academic content and critical thinking in a problem-based environment. Focusing on one theme all week allows students to deeply explore the content from many perspectives.

Do your admissions criteria apply to summer camp as well?

Summer camp spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.

Who teaches summer camp?

MIS faculty are the core teachers for summer camps.

What is the deadline for registering for summer camp?

Families may register for summer camp as long as there is space permitting in the specific camp and/or age group of interest.
