The teerdhala family
"We donate to the MIS Annual Fund because we’re investing in not only our children’s education, but to a school that is on the cutting edge of innovative learning. It’s exciting to be a part of it!"
The Young Family
"Our family gives to the Annual Fund because we love the excellent science labs and the wonderful theater programs and the new sports teams that make MIS such a rewarding place to be for our son. We also love the teachers, and we want MIS to keep them happy by supporting them with the best equipment and training."
"I wanted to give money to my school because I love MIS, and I love going to school at MIS. I wanted to be on the Annual Fund Committee to help the school get more money and engage the teachers and parents to talk to the kids about what they are learning."
"We view ourselves as MIS investors and understand that as investors who have a vested interest in the future success and growth of the school, it’s important to contribute toward that success. We realize that tuition payments alone aren't enough to help MIS achieve its full potential."
Why philanthropy matters: The mis approach
MIS is unlike most independent schools in that tuition funds our entire operating budget. Whereas at many schools you will hear about a “gap” between tuition revenue and operating budget, we find it imperative to be self-sufficient.
So why, then, does giving to MIS matter?
Your gift is a tangible show of support to the world.
The culture you find at MIS wasn’t built by happenstance—it was constructed out of passion. The passion of our founder, of our teachers and administrators, yes. But more importantly, the unrelenting passion of our students and our families.
When outsiders—particularly foundations who help fund our larger projects—see a high level of stakeholder buy-in, they are much more likely to throw their support behind MIS as well. That’s why every gift—no matter the dollar amount—truly matters. It’s because of our high participation rate in giving from all groups—faculty and staff, parents, grandparents, and one day, even alums—that we can strive as a school on behalf of our supporters.
Your gift enables us to hire and develop the finest educators.
MIS teachers are scholars themselves—most hold advanced degrees—whose own intellectual enthusiasm inspires our students. They are not just teachers, but passionate co-learners in every classroom.
And they’re constantly seeking to improve.
The professional development opportunities we’re able to extend to them through your support—from national conferences and panels to on-campus workshops and seminars—inspires them all the further.

your gift at work: the mis annual fund
MIS relies solely on tuition for our yearly operating budget. And that means every gift to our Annual Fund gets used to even greater effect.
We can immediately apply your gift to hiring and training internationally sought-after teachers, purchasing state-of-the-art lab equipment, launching eye-opening arts initiatives, bringing in compelling speakers and performers, enhancing our athletics and wellness programs, and sustaining countless other opportunities and experiences that MIS creates.
Contributions at all levels prove vital to keeping MIS thriving. Major foundations look for community commitment when evaluating grants, and strong parent participation in annual funds counts for a lot. Last year our faculty achieved 100% participation, and this year our goal is to have our parents match this level of support. It shows that as a community, we’re all in for MIS.
Your gift is an offering to the whole world’s future, preparing generations of uncommonly hopeful and purposeful graduates to go forth and put their ideals into practice.
Contributors donating $2,500 or more are welcomed into the Lynx Society and contributors donating $4,000 or more are welcomed into the Founders Circle. Each will be celebrated at private events this spring. Lynx Society and Founders Circle contributions are essential to funding our growth and development vision.
We’re truly grateful for your ongoing vote of confidence.
Many corporations offer matching programs for employee charitable donations. Reach out to your company HR department if you have any questions about their matching program. Please send your company’s matching gift form along with your donation to MIS. Contact Nicole Stump with questions.
